Christos Stathakis
Christos was born in 1978 in Sparta, Greece. His first interference with chemistry was in 1996 when he commenced undergraduate studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After graduating, in 2001, he followed up with doctoral studies at the same institution, under the supervision of Prof. I. Gallos. His research emphasized on the development and implication of methodologies for the construction of medium sized carbocycles, as well as solid phase synthesis techniques for the development of small libraries of natural products and analogs thereof.
In 2007 he was awarded his PhD diploma, and after one year of mandatory military service, he moved in New York, USA, to join the group of Prof. S. Snyder at Columbia University. During his studies there, he dealt with the total synthesis of complex natural products, members of the resveratrol oligomers family.
Since September 2009, he is a postdoctoral researcher (Marie Curie Excellence Grant Fellow) at Dr. Vourloumis group, Laboratory of Chemical Biology, at NCSR “Demokritos”, Athens, Greece. His research is basically focused on the synthesis and biological evaluation of novel rigid scaffolds as amiglycoside mimicks, and analogs thereof with potent antibiotic activity.
